thepic.net Blog

Blog about developing thepic.net and such.

Memcached

I’m now using memcached for better concurrency, with low-end server like this it can handle traffic pretty well.

Secure browsing and uploading.

You can now use thepic.net with TLS, through https://secure.thepic.net, the certificate is self-signed for now

Stupid me.

Apparently my backup script has been hogging all the space on my server, fail by me as I didn’t delete the old backups so it used space exponentially, should be fixed now.

Little slow on the updates.

Well as the semester has started (actually it started 2 and a half months ago), I’ve been quite busy with school work, but no worries, I’ll continue developing on my free time and try to patch out critical stuff.
Next big thing I’ll work on is albums, and rolling out registering on the page to get permanent space for your pictures, I’ll focus on this at my winter break, so it should be done in dec-jan timespan.

404

There’s been some problems with uploading picutres and getting 404 after it, I’ll have to look at it.
For now if you get one, just try to reupload.

Exif Data

thepic.net doesn’t store exif data of your .jpg files, so you don’t have to worry about your personal information going public to the internet.

Move over to WP.

I’ve decided to ditch my own blog system for now for wordpress. I think it lacked some basic functionality and I would like to focus all my development time to thepic.net, I might revisit the idea when I have more time and motivation to keep it up.

Anyways, WP is cool!

Edit,

What’s not cool about this that it doesn’t support PostgreSQL, bad wp, bad.

Contact

New contact form is done and can be found at here, you can still contact me by my email too.

Drag and drop

Partial drag and drop functionality has been added, unfortunately it only works with webkit browsers (in other words: Chrome and Safari), I hope to get more browser support on it later on.
Using it is simple, drag your image from your computer to the main page area, and dropzone should appear, drop your file there and continue as you would with selecting the file manually.
Next up in dev is stripping exif data from jpg files, and completing my contact form.
Enjoy your stay!
